Getting Cash For Gold is easy. But getting a lot of cash for gold requires a small bit of effort. On every street corner it seems that people are offering to pay cash for your gold jewelry, coins and bars. Many of these shops and dealers claim to pay the best price, but if you do some research, you will find that they are, to put it politely, bending the truth. There is usually only one or two reputable shops in a medium-sized city that will give you the most cash for gold. Therefore, if you can spend an extra hour or two researching your options on the internet and by calling, you can save hundred or even thousands of dollars.
This page has links to many gold purchasers, some local, some national. I recommend visiting all their websites and calling at least 5 or 6. Why? Because the shop that gives you the best price, will not take advantage of your desperation. I know that sounds harsh, but most people selling gold and jewelry need money and need it fast. So, this is why these shops have popped up all over the country, to take advantage of the economic downturn. But, a reputable firm will want to stay in business for a long time and establish solid relationships with repeat customers. They will not rip you off because they want you to come back and buy some day when you have money again!
The Method:
The easiest way to test a gold purchaser is to ask them what are they paying for a “One Ounce American Gold Eagle”. That is a gold coin issued by the US Government that is one troy ounce of gold (Please note that a troy ounce is slightly more than a regular ounce. It's actually equal to 1.097 ounce). First, note the actual gold price on the sidebar on the right. You should refresh your browser to get the latest price. Then notice the Amazon listings for a Gold American Eagle on this page. That will give you a rough estimate of how much a Gold Eagle is worth. In general, dealers mark them up by over $100, and usually buy them for a little bit higher than the current trading price.
So, visit their websites and call them up. Whoever will give you the best price for a gold eagle, will probably treat you fairly if you are selling your jewelry or other gold items. One thing to be aware of is “numismatic coins”. These are collectible gold and silver coins that have a value greater than their gold or silver content. If you have such coins, make sure to check their prices at the following websites.

To Summarize:
- Check the current price per troy ounce of gold (in the sidebar).
- Take a note of how much Gold American Eagles are currently selling for on Amazon and Ebay.
- Click on some of the website links to the right to find gold purchasers in your area.
- Call them and ask how much they will buy a Gold Eagle for, and note the three shops that offer the best price.
- Contact the top 3 again and inquire about your particular item. They will all want to see it in person, but you have a pretty good idea now that these are the most honest dealers in your area.
- If you have old gold and silver coins, make sure to visit some of the above mentioned websites.
